When the flowers are too fragile to bare steam distillation, an alternative method must be used to extract their aromatic components: the solvent extraction. Flowers are firstly mixed with hexane (the solvent) and a solid mixture of wax and oil, known as concrete, is produced. Concrete is then resumed with ethanol, another solvent, to obtain the absolute, which concentrates all the blossoms aromatic components, in a liquid form.
